This here is
my bash at creative packaging for bottled super powers, a completely fictional
product that just seemed way more fun to design for then say... bin bags? I wanted
the packaging to be over the top, super speed can’t stay on its bottle. Super
strength too big for its bottle lifting a massive boulder. Flight is flying
precariously up in the air in a potentially deadly position (Don’t worry it’s
been up there a week it’s not going anywhere). Then Invisibility... well yeah...
These bottles represent four powers I would love to have and they do it in a
way that’s both physically and mentally stimulating.

My Supporting Statement!
Supporting Statement
My FMP started straight off the back of my personal
project, I started wanted to explore packaging further and how I could use what
I’d learnt from the course about materials and design, just to make something
different and intriguing. I went through a lot of different designers from the
group Intrinsic Nature, MinaLima Design to small independent guys I found
hidden on internet forums, just so I could get inspiration about what successful
design in business looked like, but really I drew the most from some Japanese,
sustainable packaging I found on Behance.net which pushed me further into this
project.
The project changed so, so much for me. It started out
just wanted to look at packaging, make it sharp and design some really smooth
sharp and inevitably boring packaging. Talking to John really helped to make me
challenge myself, try different things, explore with materials and end up
coming out with something completely different to how I ever planned my
project, something 3D... Talking to Dave helped me with how I think, how I get ideas
out and down, helping me to progress through ideas much faster and constantly
come up with better thoughts. I’d say I didn’t necessarily meet my objectives, my
FMP came to a better end. I challenged myself, I came up with a new idea and
presented work in a way that was much more intriguing both visually and
mentally.
FMP relates closer to older, more historical practices
for me rather than new, shiny and sharp practice. I drew most of my inspiration
from Japanese packaging it’s older, traditional and much more visually
stimulating then what we have now, it wasn’t made to blend in, wasn’t made to
copy the strongest competitor, it was made to be great for the product it held,
I feel I honoured what I produced. Could I of worked harder? No doubt, but I’ve
had full time work, injuries and other things getting in the way which makes me
feel like I’ve worked to a standard that will get me to university with a grade
above what was required, Not only has it given me that grade.. The most
important thing FMP has shown me is to challenge myself, never accept what’s easy,
what’s accepted, push myself, explore and the end result will show what I have
to bring to the table.

Exhibition Almost Done.
Been putting up my exhibition, seeing how it goes, It isn't quite done and I need to finish it off tomorrow, which isn't going to be easy with my arm in a sling, but here it is with the posters, the black lines and the bottles all up and ready to goo!
Finished Bottles.
Quick post to show the finished (Or almost finished bottles ready to go up).
Super speed, this is super speed, Just thinking.. It's plain.. Where is he... well actually he is too fast to stay on his bottle, he's ran off and gone all over the exhibition! This idea didn't come from any kind of research, no kind of anything, it was a spur of the moment thing I really like the idea because it breaks up the rest of the exhibition.
Super flight, As you can see it's pretty obvious which bottle this is, it has wings, it's super flight. From my previous post you can already see that this one if going to be hung from the roof up in the air. Obviously the reason for this is to blow out of proportion what the liquid does. It's so powerful it's making the actual bottle float.
Super strength, the dude is so strong he's lifting something about 3x his size. The idea was initially to have him lifting the plinth he was supposed to be on, this was way to hard to actually set up though so I can't followed through with that. Still, I'm happy with how it looks.
and this is invisibility, I don't think I need to say anything about that!
Floating bottle test.
This is a post that shows me testing my fishing wire to see whether or not it would hold up the bottle it seemed to, it also seemed to do it rather effortlessly. I have now put it up and Im hoping it holds over the weekend otherwise Im going into college to some very pissed off people, one of those being me.

First Bottle Finished.
Just a couple of shots of my first bottle finished up, going to keep going with this and finish off the other 3 tomorrow. Shouldn't be too hard with a full day at college! Just need these and to finish off the design work to go up on the walls behind it and Im good to go!
First concept
Pretty sure I already uploaded a video of this, but basically this was the first time I started putting the paper onto my bottles, I cut it out wrong so just put it on rough.. Actually turned out I liked what the rough over lapping looked like.
Sooo I reckon I will keep going with this overlapping idea, it looks good like this!
Bottles filled.
Got my bottles, filled them up and started testing out different things on them, this is just a couple of photos of the bottles showing the colours and all of them lined up, nothing particularly special but it's more about the way I dress the bottles up then the contents anyway!

Idea explained.
I would right a load of stuff but it's explained in the video. Sorry about the mildly offensive music, I didn't really realise it was playing until I watched it back.
New idea?
After looking at my strength bottle I had a different idea to do with packaging, it's still the same general idea of pretty basic packaging, using the colour of the product to enhance the visuals of the packaging. But instead of doing silhouettes, doing a outline of what it is, I'm going to upload a video of what I mean like, because it's extremely awkward to explain this as it is.
All the bottle concepts come together.
Just uploading the image of where I'm up to with my bottle packaging ideas for Strength, Speed, flight and Invisibility, there is still plenty of room for these ideas to change.

Bottle packaging explained.
Just figured I would start actually recording a few bits seen as it's a much easier and quicker way of explaining whats happening!

Bottling Idea.
Fallout, has something called Nuka Cola in it. It's a luminescent blue liquid that I don't actually think has any "Super" effects. What it does so is look cool as fuck. This kind of idea will definitely be used in my final presentation, the glass bottle I fill need to be filled with some form of colourful liquid to make it look awesome.
This first one I absolutely love, the bottle actually looks great. Infact it's probably a better example of packaging then most of todays products.
Some of my sketchbook work for the logos/superpowers.
Just thought I'd put up some of these shots here which show my sketchbook work where I've been planning out the Logos you've already seen on this blog, This sketchbook still needs a lot of filling before we're done with the year.
These are actually in reverse order but this is where I decided on the foot for the super speed potion. It's pretty damn symbolic of speed.
This was just drawing the flashes logo. Just seeing what it looks like (Obviously I can't just copy it but still wanted to look at it). Quite simply this just doesn't symbolize speed to enough people.
Couple of sheets where I was writing down gods/superheroes that had something to do with super speed, this page just happened to have The flash and Mercury, Potentially the two most prominent to super speed.
This is some pieces I need to get stapled in or something but it's a list of most super powers which I was using to decide what I wanted to bottle! There are some proper, proper strange ones...
Again another page where I was settling on which super powers to choose by writing them down and circling the ones that I liked.

Ideas, Visualised digitally
This top one is based off Mercury's winged boots, it signifies speed and this was the first thing that popped to mind when I was researching. He was a god (or a messenger of the gods)? and was pretty notable for his speed. Nothing more fitting.
This not so good one... Is am arm denoting strength, and then the Nemean which has come from Hercules, Hercules also being commonly associated with being incredibly strong.

Bottle Mock ups.
The shape of the bottle is definitely final and I have to look into it so I just did some faint lines so it was obvious what it was, other then that I'm just starting to use my time now to start designing and making these labels for these super drinks. I could of rebranded coke, I could of rebranded fanta but thats boring, I have plenty of time later in industry to do that stuff. Right now it's about super powers. Bottling and branding super powers.
